Welcome!
Like everyone from time to time, I wonder what it would like to have chosen another professional path in life - nature photographer? anthropologist? travel writer?
Most days though, I am fully in love with my career as a clinical psychologist and a member of the Psychology Department at Bemidji State University. In fact, I often tell people that being a professor is the best job in the world. After all, I am part of what I see as a life changing experience for students year after year.
My education as a psychology major in college taught me how we think, learn, and perceive the world around us - as well as a lot of other things I probably forgotten by now.
More broadly my college education as a whole gave me tools to navigate within an ever increasingly complex world, helped me to seek out diverse opinions that challenged my assumptions, and taught me to appreciate that the greatest achievements as well as the most fulfilling moments are usually gained through sustained periods of disciplined effort. I firmly believe that education is still the best investment one can make.
Now in my roles as educator, researcher, coordinator, supervisor, advisor, and counselor, I am mindful of how useful the tools of our discipline are every day. Sometimes though, I do still wonder what it would be like to not see the world through the eyes of a clinical psychologist....
